Dr. Mäkinen received her medical doctorate in May 2018 and PhD in Neurology in January 2019 from the University of Turku. Her PhD Thesis focused on diagnostic and prognostic aspects of clinical brain dopamine transporter imaging in parkinsonism. Dr. Mäkinen is currently combining clinical work as a resident of neurology at Helsinki University Hospital with postdoctoral research at Turku Brainlab and movement disorders group. Elina is interested in the therapeutic potential of brain stimulation techniques. Her current research is focused on neurological symptoms caused by brain lesions.
