Emma Honkanen

PhD, Department of Neurology, University of Turku

Emma completed her medical doctorate at the University of Turku in May 2017 and her PhD in neurology in May 2022. Currently, she combines clinical work as a resident in neurology with postdoctoral research. In her PhD thesis, she studied basal ganglia function with functional brain imaging in parkinsonism and dystonia under the supervision of Dr. Juho Joutsa and Dr. Valtteri Kaasinen. Her current research is focused on investigating the neural network of movement disorders. In addition, she aims to evaluate the effects of deep brain stimulation (DBS) on brain metabolism through the FDG-PET imaging analysis. Apart from her medical interests, she enjoys doing sports and spending time with family and friends.
